Excellent and easy to install 18.12.2017
The original extractor in my early productions Colf M1991A1 started to fail to hold tension. Ordered this extractor. First thing I noticed is the hook is correctly beveled out of the package. Installed it in my slide with a new Harrison Extreme Service Firing Pin Stop. I only needed to add a little more tension and it was perfect. The rear of the extractor almost matches the slide, you canât tell itâs a little long until you run your fingers over it. Looks great. Passed the 10-8 extractor test with 230gr ball and 230gr Gold Dots. I am very pleased.
Ignore the interview about the Taurus PT1911. The Taurus may be a clone of a series 80 Colt but itâs not identical. Series 80 is a Colt product and this part is made for a Colt product.
Very first part to replace on any Kimber 24.11.2017
I have bought and used many of these Wilson extractors on Kimber guns. This particular one is required for all newer Kimber's Series II Kimber 1911s since 2001. Earlier Kimbers to 2001 use the series 70 extractor.
I am not a gunsmith. I have never had a installation issue with any of these. I had 1 out of a dozen not fit perfectly flush to the gun's exterior - minor cosmetic issue. All extractors have been able to be inserted into the slide, and tuned for reliable function.
I would not trust any MIM extractor.
The next part to consider changing on a Kimber is the slide stop. I prefer Dan Wesson Valor forged slide stops; Ed Brown makes a good one but it has a smaller flared area than the Dan Wesson's part.
Neither of these upgrades should require a gunsmith, so you spend about $90.00 for a much more reliable Kimber.
The next area to consider for a reliability upgrade on a Kimber is trigger components, spending about $100-$150 for quality trigger components like C&S, or EGW which includes forged hammer, sear, and disconnector. Finally, I would spend another $30 to get a forged extended ejector like Wilson.
This should be the minimal replacement for Kimber parts if you plan to use the gun for defense at about $220.
