Full length sizing is great(22.08.2012)
I had problems with sizing my rounds for my FN F AL but the full sizing on this die set has cleared up my jamming problems. Set is well worth the price.
Perfect For My Long Range .308 Rifles!(05.11.2012)
I ordered the RCBS Competition Die Set in .308 Winchester specifically to review for my blog fans and followers. I am a HUGE RCBS fan and love their products. RCBS not only makes high quality reloading equipment, but has customer service that is next to none. All of my reloading equipment is RCBS and I own several of their standard die sets.
As I have gained experience with reloading and all of the steps that are involved, I began to get a little more serious about producing some seriously accurate and deadly hand loads. It all came to a head when I began shooting at a private range with 700+ distances. I began to understand the importance of why quality hand loads can help you shoot that far accurately.
I began looking for some equipment that would help me produce the loads I needed to make the distances and wanted to shoot. Through various online reloading forums, I found several reloaders that had been using the RCBS Competition Dies. Everyone that I spoke with highly recommended the dies not only for high quality, but ease of use. So I decided to order two sets, one for .223 Remington and one for .308 Winchester.
When the dies arrived, they were packaged in the same hard plastic cases as the standard dies are. However, the boxes are gray and not the usual green. Once I opened the box, I was immediately impressed with the quality of the dies. The RCBS Competition dies are made with hardened steel and are coated with an external oxide finish. The finish prevents the dies from chipping or pealing, which can happen with standard plated dies.
The competition dies are designed with tighter tolerances for accuracy and even though they may look difficult to use, they are actually quite simple. The competition seater die has a hand adjustable micro-meter head built into the die. This head can be turned easily by hand and helps adjust the seating depth to .001" accuracy. The head and die body are both marked with white lines and numbers to help with adjustments. RCBS did an excellent job with this die! Thus far, this has been my favorite thing about competition dies.
Another one of my favorite features about the competition seater die is the loading window. RCBS has machined an area in the die in which you can simply insert the bullet, dropping it into place, subsequently aligning the bullet perfectly with the case mouth before seating. This is so much better than the way you seat the bullet with a standard die. No more holding the bullet with your fingers as you lift the shell casing into the die!
Each competition die set comes with the hard plastic box, a seater die & resizing die and instruction manual. The competition dies set up the same as with the standard dies, although I still recommend reading the instructions on the specifics of the competition die. The manual will explain the newer features as well as how to use the micro-meter adjustment head.
In addition to safe reloading practices and care during the different reloading stages, I have been able to produce the most accurate loads ever using competition dies. Setting up or changing seating depth is quicker and much easier than standard dies and I no longer have to guess or use trail & error when changing the seating depth of my bullet.
Both the seater die and resizing die are polished inside which helps smooth each process. Brass doesn't have the ability to stick as easily inside as found with standard dies. The resizing die is incredibly smooth and I have found that I do not have to use as much case lube to get a smooth cycle when the lever cams over. What a great set of dies!
All in all, my competition dies are the most crucial piece of reloading equipment I own. Not only do I have high quality dies, but I also have that RCBS piece of mind. I know that if I have any issues that RCBS will back their products with no questions asked. I highly recommend the competition dies to anyone who reloads, whether you shoot competition or not! You will be happy with the quality and ease of use when using the competition dies. Get yourself a set, you will not be disappointed!

Excellent product(09.06.2017)
This is the 6th RCBS Competion Die Set I have.
Extremely easy to use with the loading window and easy to set up initially.
In my rifles gives results equal to the most expensive benchrest dies available.
Ammo produced is totally concentric.
Sizing smooth and easy.
Quality manufacture is evident
Great dies for not a lot of money
Nice...(24.04.2012)
Love how it is so easy to load from the top and no more damaged bullets when seating.

Poor Quality Competition Dies(01.05.2011)
The numbers on the thimble do not match the horizontal graduation numbers. E.G. A 5.0 setting on the seater die requires the thimble to be set on 20 - not zero. A reloader would think they could have made the precision dies more precise considering the price. My older (20) competition dies have much much more accurate graduations.
Imprvoved Usage and Accuracy(23.05.2011)
I purchased this die set in an attempt to obtain improved accuracy from a name brand rifle and scope. Previously, with my "old die set," I was obtaining 0.75 inch groups at 100 yards with 50 and 55 grain bullets. With this die set, cases are more easily resized, and the necks appear as if they were polished with steel wool. Seating bullets is also much easier, and the collar results in bullets that are seated more consistently. I currently am obtaining "bug hole" groups with both bullet weights.
