The real deal(17.05.2012)
These are still the best way to store ammo long-term. I've tried the plastic ones but their seals are too easily compromised when stacked with the added weight of ammo. These are current year production by SCF, exactly as the the gov't would receive them. The seals barely have the rim indentation, unlike surplus which has been stacked weighted. Well worth the cost for brand new. As a plus, Brownells does their usual great job packing them for shipment.
Nice cans!(25.05.2012)
To me, buying scummy old stinky ammo cans with bad gaskets doesn't make sense. Sure, these are more expensive. But they are NEW. What's more, Brownells is great. I ordered 6 of these but got the plastic cans, which I'm not wild about. Called up Brownells and they rectified the sitch immediately. UPS picked up the box at my house and everything. Correct cans were there in a couple days. The true mark of a great retailer isn't getting everything right all the time, because everybody makes mistakes. It's how fast they fix it when they goof up. Buy these cans from Brownells, you won't be sorry.
No Brainer(01.10.2012)
Buying these was a no brainer, for the same cost of used one I get brand new ones, no funny smell, no rust, brand new seals good paint. Store ammo or other items in air tight, water tight. I like these better than the plastic one, which I use for tackle boxes.
Not sure why all the 5-star reviews(12.10.2012)
I don't understand why everyone's raving about these. If they're factory new, why is the paint job so bloody awful? There's paint chipping off of it everywhere. My husband had purchased ammo that came with an ammo can like this one years ago, and his ammo can is WAY better than these 2 supposedly brand new ones I received. Right about now, I'm wishing I had opted for the new plastic ammo cans. Onward to continue my search for more ammo cans like the one my husband had before I embarked on this search for more identical ammo cans.
Dissapointing(13.10.2012)
Can is fine, but paint is poor. Runs, glop and bubbles, some of which have popped to expose bare metal. MILSURP used is far better than these are new.
Great!(18.10.2012)
These cans are so new, you can still smell the paint. No scratches, dings or anything wrong with them...
Meh(31.10.2012)
Not the greatest. Like others have said, the paint on these is not that great. Looks like it got a quick once over and then sent out the door. I ordered the federal 500 round 45acp which comes in the MTM ammo can. Will be going the MTM route going forward for sure. Much better box, holds more than these, seals right up, and the MTM cans stack great.
Some paint problems still worth price(04.11.2012)
I see comments about "paint chips, bubbles in paint, bare metal under bubbles". I used to buy MilSurp ammo cans. I repainted everyone of those, spraying a little paint on a bubble break is nothing. I use the cans for the obvious reasons but also spray a few of them white with a red cross and fill them with medical materials (keeps it waterproof) and a new seal helps with that endeavor. I make up gun cleaning kits using foam rubber inside and cut out space for oil bottles, solvent bottles. Lots of room for patches, brushes and whatever else YOU might want in your own kit. I just ordered 10 more to go with the 5 I am doing this review on. If you are bothered by a bad paint job...don't purchase (you are not buying a car), take my word, the paint is not the reason I purchased more. None of the 5 cans I have already purchased needed repainting!
I love em(06.11.2012)
Hey, it's an ammo can! I just received 5 of these and they're great. I'm ordering 5 more for loose rounds. I don't notice any problem with the paint and they all seal up just fine. I like these way better then the plastic ones. They just seem to be more sturdy and able to take abuse.
great amo box(17.01.2013)
this is my second ammo can i ordered. its brand new no dings or morks my only gripe is that the paint was gripping under the lid when it dried but other then that no problems
Bought 10 more NO COMPLAINTS(21.03.2013)
I made my first review on the purchase of 5 ammo cans. They were made so well and filled a need that I had, I ordered 10 more. Presently I am on a waiting list to buy 10 more maybe 20. If this is the first time you have bought an ammo can or the 10th time. You can't go wrong with brand new and the price is just about down there for what you pay for MilSurp ammo cans...used sometimes nasty ammo cans. Don't take the chance purchase brand new, metal, paint and most important the seal. You may spend a few dollars more (not many) and you get what you need and you can use it the day you get it delivered. Oh yeah, the 10 I just bought, the paint was perfect on all 10. I am very pleased that I have found a supply that I can keep tapping as the need arises. Only down side right now is having to be on a waiting list, that is why I will probably buy 20 this next time.
Don't buy Mil-Surp(06.06.2013)
This makes 35 of these ammo cans I have purchased from Brownells. 2 of them had small paint bubbles that I sanded down and hit with a coat of OD green spray paint...problem solved. See my prior reviews...not much to add to them except that these are not purchased because they are "pretty" they are purchased to protect items that need protecting and in that contexted they are perfect for the job. Not just ammo or powder or tools, these air tight containers are good for paper items, insurance forms, pink slips, deeds, birth certificates, diplomas etc... Air tight, use your head and think of the many uses.
Great Quality Build Milspec Can(15.08.2013)
I got three of theses cans and couldn't be more pleased! They are just like I remember. Some have complained about paint issues but I experienced none of that. One can has been in my trunk now for some time and the paint actually seems fairly durable. I will be ordering more! Yes I would recommended these and have!!
Ammo cans(17.08.2013)
This is my second order. They are brand new. I will probably order more as the need arises.
Still a great product(25.02.2014)
All you need to do is read my previous reviews, nothing has changed, the ammo cans are as close to perfect as you can get. New metal, new paint and most important new seals. They can be used the day you get them....not like MilSurp which is usually rusty, dented and the seals are suspect. Buy one or two and see for yourself. You will get hooked and it is great to have a supply you can tap at any time.
Good for more than .50(10.03.2014)
Heavy-duty metal and water tight, perfect for storing ammo. 1,000 9mm rounds will take up a little more than half the storage space, they can get heavy with that much ammo but the handle takes it no problem.
I only gave it 4 stars because it has a large sticker on the side which, while easy to remove, leaves a lot of adhesive residue which bugs me.
Good Quality Milspec(17.03.2014)
This is my first ammo can i bought in this page they ship fast, i own 2 more from another web site i used them to storage my flashlights, my ammo and some emergencie items i would buy more here cuz they are excelent product.
Great Product(20.03.2014)
I purchased 10 of these and I am totally happy with them all. The only thing that would make me rate it lower is if they were made in China.
M2A1 ammo cans(28.07.2014)
Received my package of 12 - 50 cal ammo cans today and am very pleased with the construction and ease of operation with them. Have already started to fill them with my ammo. The cans were packed individually with seperators and arrived with out a scratch. They are much better than my expectations and I would not hesitate to order them again. Thank you Brownells for such a great products and shipping, outstanding
Absolutely Perfect!(24.04.2015)
My cans were in perfect shape, bran spankin' new, and appear to military contract ammo cans. The lids are more tight than any surplus can I've checked. Don't even bother with the surplus cans at their ridiculous prices.
Finish issues: paint has bubbles & runs(07.06.2016)
Cans are brand new (mfg date of 2016) and seal well, but my batch of 6 had paint runs inside, around the outside hardware, and air bubbles in the areas that had gotten slathered in paint especially around the hinge. This doesn't hurt functionality, but at $18 a pop, for "new" cans, I'm a bit disappointed.
Unfortunately they were also shipped without much packing between them and had rubbed and banged against each other in transport leaving scratches in the paint.
I had purchased another set of 6 that were manufactured in 2011 that had a much smoother and consistent finish.
Made in the USA(25.05.2018)
We have purchased many of these from Brownells. Today I was in Wal-Mart (I try not to go) and saw they were selling ammo cans too...and for a less money than Brownells (not too much of a difference if you can get them on sale, free shipping and no tax to consider through Brownells). So I stopped and look at the Wal-Mart ammo can. When I turned the ammo can over on the bottom was a sticker that said "Made in China." The rest of the day I was wondering if all the ammo cans we bought from Brownells were made in China too. When I got back to the shop and looked they all were "Made in the USA." Thank you Brownells for selling the ammo cans that are Made in the USA!!!
