!CAUTION! ...old mossberg 500 only...(08.09.2010)
overall the product was solid. strong for the lightness of the metal but not strong enough for my jigsaw! (The 2009 and above mossberg 500 or at least the 2010 models have a short action slide tube) so it wont fit. . . buuuut if u trim an inch off the end it fits great! solid and not much slop. dont know how it shoots but it seems pretty solid! either way if u dont kno how to gunsmith just wait for the new aftermarket bolt ons in a year or so...lol
Poor Quality(15.11.2011)
First, the actual product does not match the picture. Where the forend in the picture features a tube that partly surrounds the magazine tube, the actual product does not. This fact combined with the lack of contact between the forend and barrel, result in the forend twisting the action bars when you attempt to cycle the pump. It still functions, but this is less than ideal in regards to the durability of the action. Secondly, the forend isn't properly sized. The internal circumference of the rails is slightly smaller than the outside circumference of the magazine tube. This makes it VERY difficult to install on the Mossberg. I had to employ a generous amount of grease, some persuasion from a rubber mallet, and a lot of elbow grease just to get it installed. My final complaint is with the rail covers. They don't fit either. The product arrives with nine rail covers. There are three rails, so I would assume that three covers fit on each rail. That assumption proved incorrect. If you put three covers on the rail, the covers hang off the end. If you put two covers on the rail, you're left with almost a third of the rail uncovered. Will all the trouble I had installing the forend, I really wasn't expecting much. But even so, how hard is it to measure and cut plastic?! I was very disappointed, so I attempted to remove the covers from the rail. Thankfully, I had only installed one cover because they are near impossible to remove without destroying the cover. ERGO grip even included a free "ERGO Pictool", which they claim will help remove the covers. The Pictool promptly broke when I attempted to use it to free the cover. I found the quick failure of that tool to be an appropriate indicator of ERGO Grip's quality of workmanship. In closing, the forend is not as advertised, it doesn't fit, and it's not practical to use. Unless you want to tear up your Mossberg and destroy some cheap plastic covers, don't waste your money on this.
Great Forend,(07.09.2009)
I purchased this Forend for a tactical build I was doing. It looks great on my 870 and fits well with the build. It also offers enough space to mount a light of VFG if desired. Overall, great forend and I highly recommend it.
ERGO GRIP® 3-RAIL SHOTGUN FOREND(11.03.2010)
Mounted an ERGO GRIP® 3-RAIL SHOTGUN FOREND to my 870 Express tactical shotgun. It was too short and caused jams, bolt locked to the rear. When remedial action got it back in battery, the grip was very loose. Checked to make sure it was the correct model and then exchanged for another Ergo Grip forend. It was also too short, with the same malfunction.
Really Bad!(23.03.2010)
This Forend simply would not fit on my 870.
Great Forend(10.11.2010)
This product was purchased as an upgrade to the Surefire forend with light that is seen on a lot of tactical 870's. We have tactical/breaching specific shotguns for the breachers on our full time SWAT teams. 1 was purchased for testing and trials and subsequent to that, an additional 11 were bought.
The first one for testing has seen over 3500 rounds of various ammunition both at the range and on operations.
This forend has worked without a glitch and I would highly recommend it.
I am surprised by the reviews stating that it did not fit their 870's. I think installation error is likely in these cases.
EXCELLENT PRODUCT!(23.05.2012)
This is the BEST Rem 870 forend that I have EVER used for the $. Solid build, good rail lenght and includes the best looking/feeling rail covers on the market. (in my humble opinion) If anybody has had problems fitting this forend to their gun consider this: almost all 870 or moss 500/590 forends are made from wood or polymer/synthetic, the forend tube is ALWAYS steel. The Ergo/Falcon forend is aluminum making it much less flexible than wood or plastic. It is a MUCH tighter fit and therefore requires more force to install/fit properly.(don't be afraid to press really hard or even use a plastic/rubber hammer to fully seat the forend, afterall, the steel forend tube is still harder than the aluminum forend.) If everything is alligned properly, there is no better or tighter fitting 870 forend, PERIOD!!!
