New Style Carrier Assy solved my problem(01.08.2009)
I have a 1971 vintage Marlin 1894 in .44 mag. I picked it up cheap and began a rebuild project with it. Turned out great except it wouldn't feed 44 Specials with out jamming. Additionally, it would not feed flat nose lead bullets. I replaced the factory old carrier with the new style carrier and now it feeds .44 specials with out any problem including flat nose lead bullets. The new carrier delivers the cartridge into the chamber at almost a zero angle, that is, the cartridge is aligned directly with the chamber and the bolt shoves it straight into the chamber. It feeds .4 specials now because the front face is .30" longer and does not allow the shorter cartridge to slip in under the carrier.
maybe a bad batch(04.01.2010)
I recieved the new improved carrier, installed it, and the rifle would not cycle at all so I removed the carrier after looking at the dia. spects. noticed the spring loaded plunger is about 1/8 of an inch forward from the oem part??? this caused the timing to be way off, not sure, will contact brownells.
Perfect!(27.11.2010)
My older 1894 would not feed keith style semi-wadcutters properly with the older style carrier. This was a simple 'drop in' in my rifle. It now feeds #429244 and 429241 perfectly. (I had Marlin rebarrel with the new cut rifling a few year ago - cast didn't do so well with the micro-groove.)
Works for me(13.08.2012)
I have a 1979 M1894 in .44 Mag (only) and it wouldn't cycle Specials at all Even the Magnum Rounds had to be a minimum of 1.60" If the Cartridge was even 0.01" too short, it would Maxi Jam, so I bought and installed this New Style Carrier It took a couple hundred rounds to work the part in, so it would run butter smooth, but now it will cycle everything I can feed it TIP: If at first the Lever doesn't fully cycle the Bolt, then you have the Bottom and the Side Trigger Plate Screws switched HINT: The Longer of the two goes on the Bottom
Now PLEASE, get the one for the 1894C (357) back in stock so I can change it over too
The fix for my "Marlin Jam"(11.03.2013)
1977 Marlin 1894 .44 mag
The original carrier design seems to be a fairly common problem with these rifles. Over time my rifle developed a slight hitch in the action and eventually it turned into inconsistent feeding and "letting in two" while cycling...one round in the chamber and the next round slipping UNDER the carrier. Locks the gun up tight! I replaced the original carrier with this "New Style" carrier, and now my rifle runs smoothly and dependably. Take extra time to smooth the carrier bolt and apply BLUE Loctite to threads on the reciever where the bolt attaches. I'm very happy with this new carrier!

1894S 44mag/spl I had to order this part for a customers rifle where the old one's detent pin and spring had fallen out and it would no longer raise the round to the chamber. When trying to install the new part, the back leg of the part would not fit into the receiver. I had to take .004" off the sides for it to clear in the receiver where the pivot screw goes through. After that, and rounding all the edges, the rifle went back together flawlessly. Bad design from Marlin. I'm glad this is a customers gun. Because if it were mine I'd be selling it. A pretty expensive part for when the detent falls back out. And I'm sure it eventually will.
Dropped in and fixed my "Marlin Jam"(21.09.2016)
No modifications needed to fit my 90s era 1894 Marlin in .44 rem mag. Cycling the action before had a number of binding points where the carrier and lever weren't running smoothly against each other. Plus, more annoyingly, I had developed the dreaded "Marlin Jam" where cycling the action without lowering the muzzle would allow a double feed and the carrier would catch on the lip of the case of the 2nd bullet on the way up, jamming the gun. This new carrier, plus a little polishing and rounding edges on the lever, smoothed the action incredibly. Oiled and cleaned out some carbon and it went back together easily. Would highly recommend vs. trying to modify a worn carrier from the original gun.
The part arrived slightly different from the picture; not polished metal but black painted. Some machining marks are visible but all the contact surfaces are smooth. Very slight geometry differences from the original but the overall geometry was very similar.
