Excellent design & quality!(19.11.2009)
This is the best strap wrench I have ever used. It's easy to setup and it can even be used with a torque wrench.
Not a substantial tool(24.01.2010)
Handle is pot metal. It broke the first time used. Couldn't stand up to a stubborn RR free float tube. Gouged the tube when it broke. I cannot recommend this tool.
Nice Wrench(04.03.2010)
Great design, easy to use and handy for other projects besides floating handguards.
Weak Wrench(17.05.2010)
Have to agree with G2. I used this wrench to remove a RRA free float handguard and it broke relatively quick and gouged my handguard. This is not a wrench for heavy duty jobs. Very weak.
strap breaks(16.01.2011)
wrench works well except that strap breaks at about 35 ft lbs. strap can be retied, but after three or four breaks, it gets too short.
Broken(22.01.2012)
Purchased to install several free-float tubes on AR's, slipped frequently while tightening threaded ring on Larue Tactical free float tube. Needed to take barrel off, provided no leverage, constant slipping. once I got it to finally not slip could not get enough leverage to turn the nut off which I had installed with it. Applied to much tourque and it broke, cheap pot metal. Disapointed in Brownells for stocking junk like this.
Weak and Ineffectual(18.02.2012)
Too small to put enough tension on to get those "tough to line up" tubes installed. Made of MIM parts, broke after only 3 uses.
high priced cheap junk(09.03.2012)
I put about 35 to 40 ft/lbs to it using the provided 3/8 drive hole and it snapped in half, Didn't even come close to loosening the float tube.
Junk, just plain JUNK!(05.08.2012)
This product is very disappointing. Broke the strap trying to remove a Larue rail. It slips easily, breaks easily, and is just not worth the price. Nearly every tool I have purchased here has been great. Glenair ought to be ashamed.
Most Worthless Tool I Have Ever Purchase(26.11.2012)
I am Disappointed that Brownells would carry such a worthless tool. There is nothing good I can say about this item. It broke the first time Im tried to use it. DO NOT BUY!!
Best lightweight strap wrench(15.10.2015)
This is a US military spec tool originally intended for assembling connectors on aircraft. It's made of cast aluminum. It's not a pipe wrench or a barrel wrench. Yes you can break it but in ten years I haven't broken any of mine. You would use this instead of the many lightweight plastic ones you normally find in the market and it is superior to every one of those I've sen.
no bad experiences here. used a bunch!(03.06.2017)
I've used the tool almost daily for years in the aviation industry. And at home whenever a strap wrench is needed. All my co-workers used them as well as others I've never see one break yet.. so IDK what you all are doing wrong. I have seen these (and all) strap wrench's loose the rubber on the strap eventually but that's normal wear..
If you really need something stronger (and bigger) I also recommend the chain style wrench from hazard fraught which I bought another similar tool with same style chain, and combined the lengths of chain you can insert the chain through a rubber hose like a garden hose to cushion the parts.. but don't crush your soft rails. Or their rails..
