Not as use full as one would think(13.08.2009)
Great tool for learning how the AR15/M16 triggers's work. It too slow taking the trigger and hammer on and off, to make it use full for a trigger job. I rather have the rigidity that the lower receiver offers. One would think taking trigger pull measurements from the lower would offer a more accurate measurement due to the increased rigidity.
Great Tool For Tuneing a Stock Trigger(06.11.2009)
This Tool Has Saved a Ton Of Time When You are Tuneing The Stock Trigger Group, I Have Tuned several and With Very Little Practice You Can Smooth Your A/R Trigger To 3# In No Time . A Great Tool To Add To The A/R Tool Set .
Excellent teaching aid...(05.06.2011)
This was nice for getting comfortable setting the setscrews of my JP Enterprise trigger I bought here at Brownells. Being able to see all the mechanics of it, and the whys and hows it works. Being able to totally study what goes in my ar instead of just dropping in and being done with it.
It certainly allowed for just that. I can honestly see where this fixture will be really handy when I later get involved in heavier trigger modifications down the road too. Until now, I can honestly say I am most confident in every tiny aspect on the total working of an ar trigger and hammer to the smallest detail.
One word of advise, when using this, if you have an oversize mag release button, it will get in the way of the front butterfly nut that holds the bolt in the hammer pin hole. So if you have one, you might want to temporarily put the standard mag release button on before going any farther. The dry fire block has a cut out in the mag well for the mag release to lock it in place. Which that fits inside the magwell perfectly. Not to tight, and no slop.
It has thick rubber washers "2" for the right side for securing as not to mar your finish, and the angle metal for left side is very smooth and coated well as to protect left side of ar. But still, you might want to be careful because rushing it could still mar your finish if you dont take your time and be a bit gentle. But I didnt come close to having a problem with that.
Please note this is NOT a complaint, but if I could change just one thing about this fine fixture... it would be somehow making the block with the hammer stop that goes into the mag well longer sticking out the bottom of the mag well about 4 or 5 inches maybe, as to be able to secure in a vise, so the ar can freestand in it while doing any study/work on it.
But in my opinion, this fixture is still deserving of 5 stars.
I would recommend this to everyone, if and only if your serious about wanting to study how the trigger and hammer along with the components work, or later wanting to do a good trigger job. If neither appeal to you, then you would never use this and be a waste of money. Im just going to assume anyone who finds this product and reads the comment reviews have an interest in doing one of two, or both which is why I do recommend.
Didn't Fit My Receiver(13.05.2014)
It's a nice theory, but the aluminum frame wouldn't fit flat agaisnt my receiver. One of the bumps around the safety interfered with the plate. Once I filed the plate enough to fix that, I discovered that the hammer had to be cocked BEFORE it was fully clamped against the side of the receiver, otherwise it would interfere with the bolt catch. Once I finally got it all in place, I tried to install the hammer block, only THAT wouldn't clear the button on the bolt catch.
Basically, the thing is useless on a fully assembled rifle, unless you want to start by removing the bolt catch. This was tried on a match rifle, built with nothing but top of the line components, so I'm not dealing with out of spec hardware.
In addition, the supplied pins were a bit rough. I could feel them abrading things as they were slide in & out, which I had to do many times before I gave up.
works great saves time(01.08.2014)
Worked great, was able to stone and do adjustments not having to pull trigger in and out of the lower. Before I started stoning I made sure I got used to the fixture. I put the trigger and hammer in and out of fixture a 4 or 5 times to get used to it and made sure it worked each time I installed it.
