Ambi Tac Latch(16.08.2009)
Cast part. Lever broke off during first range day.[...]
pick a different one(30.08.2009)
deployed rifle on a perimeter during a barricade. while gaining high ground shooting platform, the large blade broke off. still functions, but should be cast iron instead of aluminum
Totally useless(20.09.2009)
Mine broke on the very first pull, failed to open the bolt carrier. This product would get you killed if you installed it on a self defense weapon.
Not "Brownells" Quality(30.10.2009)
The latch works good for left-handed shooters only. If a right-handed shooter tries to use the tab on the left side of the charging handle, it will break off -- probably the first time. The latch is made of cheap pot metal and will fail.
Excellent After Market Part(13.02.2010)
I have this part on two of my AR 15's. One a 16" Carbine and one a 20" rifle. On my rifle it makes operating the charging handle easy with the clearance of my scope. With my carbine I can keep my fire control hand on my pistol grip and use my support hand to manipulate my charging handle. I have BEAT this part and it has given me ZERO issues. The fit was great out of the box on both of mine. The finish isn't 100% as it wears a little with repeated use (over 1500 rounds now on the carbine), but it's a charging handle latch on a rifle, so finish isn't my greatest concern. Not only would I recommend then part to others, I already have.
Broke the first time(19.03.2010)
Mine also broke the first time I used it. Disappointing at best; life-threatening at worst. Maybe if it was made with stronger metal?
Absolute junk(16.04.2010)
Broke the first time i used it...poorly made.
Simply the best(17.06.2010)
Although some filing is needed to fit the hook to upper receiver this part is totally ambidextrous. Aluminum to aluminum to reduce wear. On the gas buster handle the latch must be reduced to function with it although it fits right on a standard handle. I love this part! All my ARs will have them. This part makes actuation of the charging handle extremely easy.
Looks good, but doesn't hold up.(03.08.2010)
Luckily, it broke during training. When charging with the left hand, while addressing "threats" it snapped off. There's not much metal at the transition so, for light duty use maybe, but how much is your life worth?...
Can I give it no stars(19.09.2010)
THis latch broke while trying to charge the gun. Not suitable for use. Will not buy another and take a chance that it could happen again.
Good design, Bad material(21.01.2011)
In the performance of my duties the latch broke at the extended portion when I cycled the action with the latch. I used this item for about six months. I like the mechanics of it, but the material its made out of needs to be durable.
Latch works fine.(22.02.2011)
Had it installed to the factory charge handle in about ten minutes. Works and functions well so far, as I have not run it through the hard stuff yet but seams to work just fine for right and left hand shooting. As others have stated, if this was for a duty riffle I would recomend a heavier metal though. [...]
Junk(04.03.2011)
This thing looked great but broke the first time I pulled back to charge the bolt. Junk do not waste your money
Item broke(23.08.2011)
The idea of the item is great and if it hadnt have broken, I'd give it 5 stars, but it broke under moderate use.
Stay Away - Way Away...(10.10.2011)
Left-hand paddle broke off on first use - dropping the bolt to load the gun. Appears to be cheap, cast pot metal; will NOT be ordering a replacement. I'd give this thing zero stars if I could...
Right side stem broke(12.06.2012)
In its first few months, it was perfect. sturdy and easy to find with a quick right hand up, but it only took a snag to snap the 'flag' on the right off.
Stiffer 'arm' and it would be the best, I think.
Until then, it's just something to break.
JUNK(09.12.2012)
It was broke when I recieved it, still in the package!!! That was over a yr ago. I just checked the reviews to see if it was a fluke. I'm very suprised Brownells still carries it.
New version made out of steel(14.03.2013)
I have both aluminum and the newer version made out of steel. On the older version, I always cut out the large paddle since on my left hand operation I didn't need it. I understand all the other users that broke of the paddle made of aluminum, you won't have the same problem with the steel one. It is sturdy.
Tactical Latch(28.02.2017)
Installed the steel one on my Colt LE 901 and also on my SASS .... a must for scoped guns - fantastic piece - no problems !!
New one Great! Old one bad.(25.05.2017)
I have used these on a lot of AR builds 15s as well as 10s and I agree the old ones were bad but they have been redesigned and the new model, that has been available for the last several years is great I have seen 3 of the old style break but not even one of the new design. As you can see by the new pic, the new one is more sturdy and for the price you can't complain, not to mention Brownells service rocks. You can not touch an ambi handle for this price anywhere! The market will charge what you will pay buy a cheeper charging handle and put your extra cash in a great barrel. Great product, great price now I'll get off my soap box thanks guys & safe shooting.
No issues(16.03.2018)
I rely on these reviews a lot when purchasing new products so I thought I better do one for this latch since it had such a poor rating. I took a chance an bought one of these for a rifle I was assembling last fall that had a scope and needed an extended latch. I had no issues with it. Installed easily and worked as advertised. I'll be buying some more.
My Favorite tactical latch to date!(18.04.2018)
I have been using this latch for about 8 months now, very happy with the purchase. They are now made of steel, and I understand from reading these reviews they once were made with aluminum or an alloy (not very sturdy). Originally I was trying out a few types of latches, (I didn't need ambidextrous) but this was one of the limited offerings for tactical latch upgrades, and I wanted to check it out, along with the 100-004-897 Tactical latch. What a difference-just in the slight material and design differences. A couple of friends and client type folks, looked and tried the various versions on the ones I had available to check out, and most liked the M&A Parts one the best also.
and I am telling you, I couldn't give that other brand away. Again, this may not appeal to everyone, and it isn't the only game in town either but for the price and quality, it's hard to go wrong. I am very willing to recommend them and put them on my future AR guns when the opportunity comes.
