Excellent Product 17.04.2013
This really adds some heft to the muzzle and really helps me control recoil on timed and rapid fire strings!
Fantastic Product 20.01.2013
This is an absolutely fantastic product. The additional weight, strategically placed under the barrel, helps to stabilize the firearm during cycling. Is it effective? Yes, enough that it is considered an "unfair advantage" to have one in your gun during many firearms competitions. If you plan to compete in IDPA or some divisions of IPSC, best to leave it out.
It is most advantageous when performing "double trap" drills. Personally, I use these in both my 1911 and Glock. I swap it out for a stainless rod when going to sanctioned competitions, otherwise it's in my gun.
It is probably worth noting that some competition shooters (not me) find that tungsten wears out and will break through protracted use. Bear in mind that this would be the sort of high volume shooter who puts tens of thousands of rounds through his guns. I shoot a lot, but not enough to worry about this occurring.
Regarding the earlier reviewer who downgraded this product for it's difficulty of disassembly... that's not a fault of this product. Any 1911 that uses a guide rod is best disassembled with a purpose made tool that costs merely a few dollars.
